Ingredients

  • 2 boneless skinless chicken breasts
  • ¼ cup soy sauce low-sodium recommended
  • 1 tbsp honey or brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp olive oil or sesame oil
  • 1 clove garlic minced
  • ½ tsp ginger grated (optional)
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar or lemon juice for a slight tang
  • 1 tsp cornstarch optional, for thickening sauce
  • 1 green onion sliced (for garnish)

Instructions

Make The Marinade

  • In a bowl, mix soy sauce, honey (or brown sugar), olive oil, garlic, ginger, black pepper, and rice vinegar.
  • Set aside 2 tbsp of the marinade for later (for a finishing sauce).

Marinate the Chicken (Optional for More Flavor)

  • Place chicken breasts in the marinade for 10-15 minutes (or up to overnight for deeper flavor).

Cook the Chicken

  • Stovetop Method (Quick & Easy)
  • Heat a pan over medium-high heat and add a little oil.
  • Add chicken and cook for 4-5 minutes per side until browned and cooked through (internal temp 165°F).
  • Pour the reserved marinade into the pan and let it simmer for 1-2 minutes (add cornstarch mixed with a little water if you want it thicker).
  • Oven Method (Hands-Off Cooking)
  • Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • Place chicken in a baking dish, pour the marinade over, and bake for 18-20 minutes.
  • Broil for the last 2 minutes for a nice glaze.

Serve & Enjoy!

  • Let chicken rest for 5 minutes, then slice.
  • Garnish with green onions and serve with rice, steamed veggies, or a side of stir-fried noodles.
