Spam Musubi
For this recipe you will need a Musubi maker. You can purchase them on Amazon. The marinade we use for this recipe also makes a good teriyaki marinade.
Ingredients
- 1 Can Spam
- 3 Cups Cooked Calrose Rice rice must be sticky
- Nori Sheets Seaweed
- 1/2 Cup Soy Sauce preferably Kikkoman
- 1/2 Cup Sugar
- 1/4 Cup Mirin Japanese rice wine
- Musubi Maker
Instructions
- Mix together the Soy Sauce, Mirin & Sugar and pour into skillet. You can taste the marinade to see if you’d like it sweeter or saltier and just add more soy sauce or sugar. Cut Spam into 8 slices. Add Spam to skillet and cook on medium-low heat. Cook until sauce thickens and Spam is a little crispy on the edges.
- Cut Nori into strips, size doesn’t matter too much. You can do thin strips or strips that are the same size as the Spam.
- On a cookie sheet, lay down a Nori strip. Place the rectangle piece of the musubi maker on the Nori strip (center it). Add rice to musubi maker, fill to the top. Then squish the rice down with the flat piece of the musubi maker. Using the flat piece push down until the rice pops through the rectangle piece. You will now have your rice sitting on the Nori strip. Add a slice of Spam on top of the rice. Wrap the Nori around the Spam & rice.
